FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions about Mini OBDII

1. What are the functional characteristics of OBD?

Real-time instrument will have real-time display of the fuel consumption, motor speed reduction and car maintenance cost. The car analyzer records the mileage, mileage fuel consumption, fuel price, average speed, average fuel consumption, time consumption, etc. Warning over water temperature, speed reminder and other multiple warning system ensure the safe car driving.

2. How to update Mini OBDII software?

iOS system can be updated through App Store, and Android system can be updated in relevant application markets.

3. Which kind of car model can use Mini OBDII?

Cars supporting OBD standards can use the OBD app.

4. Where is the OBD interface?

The OBD interface is a 16-pin female interface and the interface is ladder-shaped. Some cars have a protecting cover on the OBD interface. The common OBD interfaces are black, white or blue.

5. Will OBD consume power when it is plugged in the car or affect the other components of the car?

Power consumption of OBD can be neglected when it is plugged in the car. It will not affect the car life service or the components. It only reads the car ECU data. OBD interface is plugged in the car for three months in the real car test and causes no problems.

6. How to connect and use OBD?

OBD is plugged to the car OBD interface (if your car has this function).

Insert the key to make the car electrified. The interface power light is ON (power light of some cars will be on with no key).

Open OBD software and Bluetooth (Wi-Fi) function to search for OBD Bluetooth device.

Have connection pairing after searching for Bluetooth devices.

Connection Failure

Please re-plug the OBD hardware, restart the software and repeat the above operation for connection failure.

7. Does the OBD software support all mobile phones?

At present, OBD consists of Bluetooth 2.0 version, Bluetooth 4.0 version and Wi-Fi version.

  • Bluetooth 2.0 version: Can only support mobile phones with Android system.
  • Bluetooth 4.0 version: Compatible with both Android and iPhone phones.

8. Can OBD be plugged in and out when charged with electricity or affect other accessories in the car?

Hot plug is allowable any time. You can plug in or out after stopping the car. There are thousands of times of hot plug in the company's real car test. It will not affect or damage your car.

9. What's the cause for the occasional disconnection in the use of OBD?

  1. Perhaps the loosen connection caused by the long time insertion on the OBD interface and the long time bump in the course of driving. Users can press it tightly with their hands.
  2. OBD is connected to the mobile phone through Bluetooth (Wi-Fi) signal. It may cause occasional interruption due to signal interference.

10. The car has high idling speed when plugging the OBD. How to explain the startup rotation in low speed over 1000?

First of all, the rotation of over 1000 in low speed is normal. Second, OBD is read-only at present without the function of changing the car parameter or affecting the idle value.

11. Why the car speed displayed on the OBD software is lower than that displayed on the dashboard?

Almost the car speed displayed on the dashboard is not accurate. For the security concern, the actual car speed is 2–5% higher. That's why people often drive 140 km/h on highways, and say they haven't been photographed due to over speed. The actual speed is 120 km/h.

12. Why is the real-time fuel consumption getting higher and higher when the speed is slower and slower in one hundred kilometers?

The car is not cut off fuel in neutral gear sliding. At this time, the engine is still burning with fuel injection and the fuel consumption cannot be 0. Instant fuel consumption in one hundred kilometers is calculated as: (100 × cumulative fuel injection) / (speed × time). At this time, the engine has few fuel injection and small speed. It takes a lot of time for driving 100 km. The time is nearly infinitely great in small speed, so the fuel consumption for one hundred kilometers is greater according to the formula.

13. Will we be able to find the interrupted data in Bluetooth/Wi-Fi connection during driving after connection recovery?

We cannot find the interrupted data. OBD begins to collect data after starting and stops data collection after completely stopping. The interrupted data cannot be found if the Bluetooth/Wi-Fi connection is disconnected in driving.

14. If OBD is used in another car, will the original data be deleted?

It will not affect the original data if it is used for another car.

15. Does Mini OBDII have a large power consumption?

  1. It will basically not affect the power consumption of the mobile phone in non-use status.
  2. There will be greater power consumption in data acquisition status due to the software operation. But it will not affect the daily power consumption of the mobile phone.
  3. According to the statistics, it has 5% power consumption for 15-minute data acquisition (the situation may be a little different due to different mobile phones). It is recommended to connect the mobile phone to the on-board charger to ensure that the mobile phone has sufficient power for the journey of more than 2 hours.

16. How to convert the fuel consumption value to the cost?

The fuel consumption value will be calculated according to the fuel price of the current city based on the petrol type of the cars.

17. OBD can be connected to the mobile phone through Bluetooth/Wi-Fi. Does it mean that anyone can control my car through the connection of my OBD?

First of all, Bluetooth/Wi-Fi signal has a distance limit. Your car is in driving process after being started and will be interrupted beyond the Bluetooth (Wi-Fi) distance. Second, the software does not have such high privileges to modify your car, only the read function of information and data.
